Thing Portraiture is an installation of paintings on paper of small everyday objects at an

exaggerated scale. In the western tradition of painting, still lives have captured objects

and portraiture has represented people. Thing Portraiture utilizes a range of painting

materials to reproduce a collection of 'things' such as scratch off cards, bobby pins, and hot

dogs to explore the active role that non-human materials play in the human world. The

scale of the individual works, while playful and humorous, shakes up our perception of

reality and representation to bring attention to the everyday.
